Our story

Gloucester Pickleball started in 2023 on a makeshift court at Montes Resort in Cape Gloucester. There was a simple goal: to bring people together playing the fastest-growing sport in the world.

By the end of 2024 we were based at Gloucester Sports & Recreation Association in Hydeaway Bay, (GSRA) after a generous donation allowed the association to build 2 dedicated pickleball courts at the community centre.

We’re a small group of locals of all ages from Cape Gloucester, Hydeaway Bay, and Dingo Beach and the surrounding areas who enjoy a good social game of pickleball and having fun with our fellow neighbours.

Our group is all about social connection, staying active and enjoying this beautiful Whitsunday area. We welcome visitors to the area and pickleball players from around the country (and the world).

Why join Gloucester Pickleball Group in Hydeaway Bay?

Social play every Wednesday and Friday from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at Gloucester Sports & Recreation Association (GSRA). Just $10 per session!

Inclusive to all ages, stages & abilities

From retirees to teenagers, everyone is welcome on the court – even if you don’t know a kitchen from a dink!

Dedicated courts

We are proud to play on 2 brand-new, dedicated pickleball courts at GSRA, who are proudly affiliated with Pickleball QLD.

We also have access to a pickleball training machine!

Opportunity to play in local tournaments

A number of our players are now competing in local tournaments from Townsville, Home Hill, Bowen, and Mackay

Paddles & balls provided

No gear? No worries. We have spare paddles and balls ready for you – wear suitable court shoes, hat and a water bottle.

  • No booking is required for our social sessions, but check in on the TeamReach App (Gloucester Pickleball code WPG002) for updates on times or weather related changes. Or call Lorraine on 0417773904

  • Social sessions are $10 per person for non members and $5 for members. This covers court hire and equipment. Please bring cash on the day.

  • We play at the Gloucester Sports & Recreation Association at 417 Hydeaway Bay Drive, Hideaway Bay, QLD.

  • Absolutely. We’ll give you the basic rules and have you playing a game within your first 15 minutes. Just wear comfortable sports clothes and court shoes. We provide the paddles and balls, so you don’t need to buy anything to get started!

    Please give us a heads up on TeamReach (Gloucester Pickleball code WPG002) or call Lorraine 0417 773 904 so that we can allocate a dedicated time to give you a complimentary introduction.

  • Yes! There are talented picklers all over the Whitsundays, including dedicated groups in Cannonvale, Hydeaway Bay, Prosperpine, Bowen, Hamilton Island, and Mackay.

  • You can apply by calling the Secretary of Gloucester Sport & Recreation , Theresa, on 0417616382, for the application form. Membership is $10 for single & $20 for a family (2 adults & 2 children under 18 years of age). Membership duration is the calendar year. Drop completed form & money in the Club letterbox or pay via bank transfer. Details on application form.
